The EuroAfriCa-ICT project aims at supporting the development of "major cooperation initiatives” or “flagship cooperation projects” in some strategic thematic areas addressed by FP7 (under the ICT theme). Support services are provided to European and African organisations interested in contributing to the development of such initiatives or projects, under FP7 or otherwise. |

Activities
In order to support the development of flagship projects, a mapping of key R&D centres of excellence in ICT has been undertaken. More generally, the identification of key cooperation initiatives is supported by the development of a comprehensive database referencing key projects. This database helps the EuroAfrica-ICT partnership to provide relevant information to organisations looking for project partners. If you are developing S&T projects in the ICT area between Europe and Africa, please fill in the online form: we will be pleased to add your details to this database.
Contacts will be further established with organisations from Europe and Africa, namely through the organisation of technical visits and thematic workshops in the upcoming months in order to support the emergence of flagship cooperation projects. Such workshops (focusing on identified strategic thematic areas) and possibly visits (e.g. small groups visiting targeted research laboratories) will be organised on the occasion of the 1st EuroAfriCa-ICT Cooperation Summit and some of the EuroAfriCa-ICT Awareness Workshops.
support services
Guidance and support services are provided free of charge to European and sub-Saharan African organisations developing (or interested in) cooperation projects in the ICT area, in particular projects to be submitted to FP7 calls (in the ICT field). Whenever possible the best is done to identify match-making opportunities and suggest European and sub-Saharan African organisations to connect in a given area for a specific purpose. Should you need any guidance, contact us.

FP7 stands for "the seventh Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities". The Framework Programmes (FPs) have been the main financial tools through which the European Union supports research and development activities covering almost all scientific disciplines. FPs have been implemented since 1984 and cover a period of five years with the last year of one FP and the first year of the following FP overlapping. FP7 will, however, run for seven years (2007-2013) with a Community financial participation of around EUR 50 000 million for the period. It is designed to build on the achievements of its predecessor towards the creation of the European Research Area, and carry it further towards the development of the knowledge economy and society in Europe. Please visit the FP7 website for detailed information. |
