The EuroAfrica-ICT Partnership is very pleased to announce a new sponsor of the “3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research”: eLearning Africa is the largest international conference on ICT for development, education and training on the African Continent.

The 6th conference will take place from May 25–27, 2011 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania,. Every year the conference grows, drawing in an increasing number of participants from Africa (80%) and beyond. Starting with 832 participants in Addis Ababa in 2006, the number increased to 1778 in Lusaka, Zambia. eLearning Africa is the key networking event for educational decision-makers and practitioners in governments, public and private education and corporate HRD and for all those who are passionate about the opportunities offered by new technology for bringing genuine social progress to Africa through education.

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is an international development partnership between the Commonwealth and non-Commonwealth governments, business and civil society organisations. It provides the international community with effective means to help bridge the digital divide and achieve social and economic development, by delivering to developing countries unique knowledge-sharing programmes in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the specific areas of Telecommunications, IT, Broadcasting and the Internet.

The “3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research” will be an event filled with discussions and debates, networking opportunities and knowledge sharing among key stakeholders in the field and policymakers coming from all over Europe and Africa.

Registrations are free of charge but, due to room capacity constraints, seats will be limited: pre-register today!

Please note that applications will be accepted by the organising and programme committees on a case by case basis (up to 300 participants can be accommodated): you will receive an email within the 72 hours after your submission, confirming or rejecting your application to participate.

Note: even if a limited budget has been planned by the organisers to contribute to travel and subsistence expenses for some of the delegates, event participants are generally speaking expected to cover their own travel and accommodation.

The ITU/WSIS Stocktaking Platform is an international organisation platform working on a publicly-accessible database of ICT-related implementation activities. It was launched during the Tunis phase of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in 2005. Its aim is to provide a register of activities carried out by governments, international organisations, the business sector, civil society and other entities, in order to highlight the progress made since that landmark event.

The Marina Congress Centre – Helsinki, Finland

The EuroAfrica-ICT Partnership is very pleased to announce that the ‘3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research’ (an event organised by the EuroAfrica-ICT EU project under the aegis of the European Commission DG INFSO with the support of the Finnish Government and of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland) will be held at the Scandic Marina Congress Center, in Helsinki, Finland.

The Scandic Marina Congress Center is located in the heart of the city of Helsinki. Its waterfront location, only a short walk from the city centre, makes the Marina Congress Center an incomparable venue for conferences and gala events.

The Conference organisers have been negotiating preferential rates for the accommodation of participants at the Scandic Grand Marina; just across the street from the Marina Congress Centre. Detailed information (a comprehensive delegate package) will be sent to all attendees upon successfully registering for the conference.

The EuroAfrica-ICT Partnership is very pleased to announce that the ‘3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research’ will be officially announced as a side-event to the “3rd Africa-EU Summit” to be held in Tripoli, Libya, on November 29-30, 2010. The 3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research, which will take place in Helsinki, Finland, on December 7-8, 2010, is being organised by the EuroAfrica-ICT EU project under the aegis of the European Commission DG INFSO with the support of the Finnish Government and of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

Looking ahead and beyond
On Nov. 29-30, 2010, leaders from both Africa and Europe will attend the third high-level EU-Africa Summit in Tripoli, Libya. In Lisbon in 2007, the remit of the EU-Africa partnership was broadened to consider global issues, such as climate change; to move beyond conventional post-colonial donor-recipient relationships; and to involve non-state actors as much as possible. These aims were backed up by the creation of the 1st Action Plan for the period 2008-2010. The mid-term review of this strategy shows that advances have been made in many areas: cooperation between officials is stronger; the Joint Declaration of Poznan, announced ahead of the December 2009 Copenhagen climate change summit, demonstrated a shared commitment to fighting climate change; and electoral observation missions have been carried out as planned. The challenge now is to continue the mutual collaboration and use the forthcoming Summit to unlock the full potential of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES) in a future 2nd Action Plan.
